# BEAT IT Bright Minds: a family learning plan

Original educational planning template. Choose goals with the learner. Do not include a diagnosis, password, address, school identifier or medical record in a public learning portfolio.

## One useful goal

- What does the learner want to understand, make or participate in?
- What can they already show?
- What does a useful next step look like?

## Ways to participate

Choose or adapt: point, picture choice, draw, demonstrate, type, speak, AAC, or a helper operating controls while the learner chooses.

Supports to try: a now/next reminder, one action at a time, two choices, read-aloud, larger text, calmer colors, a comfortable work area or a chosen break.

No support is required merely because a learner is autistic. Keep what helps the individual goal and change what does not.

## A short session

1. Choose one lesson or activity.
2. Show an example without choosing the learner answer.
3. Let the learner try with appropriate support and processing time.
4. Compare what happened with the goal.
5. Offer a break, another try or a different activity.

## Evidence of learning

- Task and safe input:
- What the learner chose or made:
- How they communicated the result:
- Support offered and whether it helped:
- A changed example to try:
- What to share or ask at the next school/support-team conversation:

Activity clicks alone are not proof of generalization or a mastered skill. Try the idea with a new example or real, safe materials where useful.

## Looking ahead

Discuss interests, academic study, daily living, self-advocacy, technical training, inclusive postsecondary programs and work options with the learner and their team. Compare the actual entry criteria, credentials, access procedures, costs and supports for each program. College disability-service processes differ from school IEP processes.
